It’s been too long since I’ve been active here, and I hope to fix that.
Quick update on the book: I’m working with Amplify Publishing Group and just getting started with a writing coach. You may see him here joining discussions I hope to restart. The manuscript has a complete 19-chapter outline and lot of chapters ranging in done-ness from ready for editing to a pile of dozens of notes and paragraphs. My goal is a finished, edited manuscript by end of year. The path to publication runs through getting the writing done, which is the focus right now.
For anyone new here: the book is about Organizational SCRAP. SCRAP (which stands for Structures, Culture, Rules, Assumptions, and Processes) is the name given to the aspects of our organization that either get in the way or otherwise no longer serve our purpose. Organizational SCRAP gives a name and language to the forces that resist change without any person being the villain. The core move is naming the enemy as a thing rather than a person, which is what makes a real coalition possible. I am hoping that many years of transformation work is being distilled into something people can actually use to have real change impact.
What I’m looking for right now: a small group of people willing to pressure-test some of the framework’s finer points with me. This is not a review committee, per se. It is just people who will tell me when something doesn’t land, when I’m wrong, or the like. If that’s you, reply here or reach out directly.
Semi related, thanks to Vibe coding, I’m also running a platform called the SCRAP Yard (yard.orgscrap.com). Think of it as a Glassdoor or Blind (https://www.teamblind.com/) for organizational SCRAP, where anyone can anonymously log and discuss sightings from their orgs. It’s in limited release. If you want to take a look, comment on anyones’ sightings, or give feedback, I’d welcome it. The stories shared so far are real ones and a very small number of test users have been chiming in. Ideally, people who share sightings would benefit from other such as you commenting, and all the while we capture patterns of SCRAP and overcoming it.
Much more to come soon. Thank you for all of you that have stayed in touch over many years about this topic.
