@Yusuf do you have any thoughts on the following? (By the way, Yusuf is my awesome writing coach through Amplfy publishing). I am open to all thoughts from anyone actually (will consider everything but not incorporate everyting).
There are all sorts of methods practices paradigms frameworks and more that are part of and related to SCRAP. I want the book to be incredibly valuable for people, but also not overkill on frameworks methods practices paradigms etc so that we can decrease cognitive load. Here is my current thinking on those things relative to the book and other works. In general, I want to avoid pulling in things that are only useful in particular contexts, and even things that are generally useful or valuable, so that the book can stay as simple and low cognitive load as possible without losing what’s important. Many such things can go in the field guide, BoK and such places.
| Concept | Relationship to SCRAP | Current thinking | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| SCRAP Core concepts, framework, distinctions, practices | Part of the SCRAP framework | In the book, main text | SCRAP, treatments, pruning/decoupling |
| SCRAP detailed concepts, framework tactics/details, practice specifics | Part of the SCRAP framework | Not in main text, very small # in callouts when compelling. Field Guide. | specific activities, tools and templates |
| Non-SCRAP practices, concepts, frameworks, etc. that are core to SCRAP framework and absolutely necessary | Used by the SCRAP Framework & Necessary | May be mentioned in main text, small # of them in callouts when compelling. Also in Field Guide. | Conflict cloud, Assumption Breaking, Improvement Loops, Experimentation/Learning/Testing business ideas, Lean, ToC |
| Non-SCRAP practices, concepts, frameworks, etc. that are very high value to SCRAP framework but not absolutely necessary | Leveraged by the SCRAP Framework broadly | Very small # of these in callouts when compelling. Field Guide. | Time to think, Radical Candor, Buy-In/Verbal Aikido, Cynefin, |
| Non-SCRAP practices, concepts, frameworks, etc. that are complementary, and good options to have/augment, but not critical | Leveraged by the SCRAP Framework in certain contexts | Field Guide. | Influence/Battle Mapping, various DT frameworks, DISC, ToC, |
